Hope in a Hopeless World

There is a lot suffering in this world. As I hear about the Coronavirus and remember the events in recent years, it just doesn’t seem fair at times. However, I was reminded that we live in a fallen world and things aren’t going to get any better here. For a Christian this world is as bad as it gets. In Romans8:17 we are told that if we are going to share in Jesus’s glory, we must also share in His suffering. We are never promised an easy life. In fact, Jesus tells us in this world we WILL have trouble (John 16:33). So, where is the hope in a fallen world? Our hope is in knowing that God is sovereign which means God is completely in control of everything. Hope is not believing that something good will happen or that something bad won’t happen, but believing that no matter what happens God is still on the throne and He is still walking through it with us. He promises not to leave us. God may be using what you are going through now to make you more like Him. Romans 8:18 talks about “the glory that will be revealed in us”, your present suffering or trial may be used by God to reveal His glory in you. Most importantly, the hope is in knowing that the trials we face cannot compare to what Christ endured on the cross. Jesus took God’s full wrath on the cross while being separated from God. We never have to face that if we choose to accept Jesus’ forgiveness. We endure the trials here and in exchange we get eternity in Heaven in the presence of God, what a trade! This lens gives me hope. I want to praise God and I think how wonderful it is to be a Christian at this time in history! Plus, I have the opportunity to share this good news with others so they can find hope in Christ too. If you are struggling to find hope in the midst of this life, you are not alone. Any of the counselors at Bridge of Hope would be glad to help you find hope in the midst of your trials and sufferings.
