Remember Who You Are

As 2022 has started, you may be setting goals or resolutions for yourself as you move forward this year. As you move forward, it is important to remember who you are. If you have seen The Lion King, one of the most memorable parts and a turning point for Simba is when Rafiki, the monkey, helps him be able to reconnect to his father who has passed away. Rafiki knows Simba is “Mufasa’s boy” and that Simba needs to hear from him.

As Christians, we belong to God, we are His son or daughter and He loves us very much, and sometimes we need to be reminded of that truth. In the Bible, John spends some time in 1 John reminding us of who we are. 1 John 3:1 says “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”  In the conversation between Mufasa and Simba Mufasa tells Simba that he has forgotten who he is and has so forgotten him. In our relationship with God, I think we often forget who God is and that we belong to Him. God is the creator of the universe, the one who holds everything together, the one who knows everything that will happen to us from the time we are born until the time we die, and that same God lives in us and promises to walk through life with us.

God has great plans for your life. In Jeremiah 29:11 it says, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.” It may be that God is saying to you remember who you are and Whose you are: you are a child of the King of Kings, I am with you, and I want to use you to glorify Me in 2022!
