God’s Timing

Life is full of times we must wait. We wait for fun events like holidays and vacations and during hard times like dreading a diagnosis or treatment. We wait for little things like a favorite meal and big things like the birth of a child. We wait for God’s will to be made clear and for Him to deliver us from our struggles. Yet, we are often very impatient when we have to wait.

The fact is God’s timing is usually not our timing. While we race around daily, God is never in a hurry. He has a perfect plan with perfect timing, and He does not have to rush anything to complete His work. There are many examples of this in the Bible. Moses spent 40 years as a prince in Egypt, then 40 years as an exile in Midian, and only then did God call him to 40 years of leading the people of Israel. The Lord knows how things will work out, and He is never surprised by our choices. His perfect plan always comes to fruition.

Even though we know this, waiting on the Lord is hard. Psalm 27:14 says “wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” God knows how we struggle to give up the useless hurry we cling to. He encourages us to be brave and courageous because He knows that it will take those qualities to endure while we wait for His timing.

Like in Proverbs 3:5-6, we should “trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Therefore, I pray we allow God’s timing to lead our lives. His plans for us are worth the wait!
