Around this time of year, you see many quotes about moms. One caught my attention: “God couldn’t be everywhere, so He created mothers.” At first glance, I thought, that’s sweet, and then I realized that is way off theologically; God is everywhere! One of the essential characteristics of God is Omnipresent which means He is always everywhere. When I realized that, the quote bothered me, but it did get me thinking. Maybe a more accurate way to say it is Moms can’t be everywhere, but they can introduce their kids to the One who is. Moms (and dads) have the first influence on their children. Each child is created and loved by God, and God has a purpose for their life. As a parent, you have a front-row seat in seeing that purpose lived out. It is a tremendous responsibility and privilege. The greatest gift you can give your child is to teach them about the God of the universe who loved them so much that He sent His Son Jesus to die so they could have a relationship with Him and live a life that reflects His love for them. If you teach them this, you are equipping them to handle life because when you aren’t there, they know God is, and you can know they are safe with Him because He loves them even more than you do. Children are a gift from the Lord and don’t belong to us. We are only allowed to care for them for a short time, and if we are wise, we will be good stewards of our time with them. Being a mom or dad matters, and it is one of the most important jobs, so do not underestimate your role in your child’s life!
“Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” (Proverbs 31:30)
