Our Weaknesses

A few weeks ago, I was walking around Swan Lake in Sumter enjoying the beauty of God’s creation. As I was walking, I came across a sculpture and when I read the inscription, it said that the sculpture was the right wing of a pintail duck in its recovery stroke which is considered the weakest position of the wing in bird flight. However, for an artist, it is the position with the most beauty and grace. In the inscription, there was also this verse: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). I have been thinking about that and the more I think about it, the more I see how true it is and it has really impacted me. Since God is the creator, He is the artist and He has created us all the way we are (strengths and weaknesses) so we can glorify Him. If you are like me, sometimes it is easier to hide your weaknesses or pretend they aren’t there, but as I think of this sculpture, our weaknesses are what God can use to make a beautiful work of art out of our lives. God wants us to give our weaknesses to Him so He can work in our lives to make us strong. Then, we recognize His power in our lives and others see what He does in our lives. If we and the people around us know that an area we were once weak in has become strong and we give God the glory for it, others are able to see God and how powerful He is and can be drawn to Him which is the whole purpose of our life, to glorify God and point others to Him. I think that our weaknesses are beautiful to God, just as the weak position of the duck’s wing is the most beautiful to the artist and He is wanting us to come to Him with our weaknesses and allow Him to create something even more beautiful for the world to see.
