Tired?

You may be asking yourself “Why am I feeling so tired lately?” The reality is that living through a pandemic and the many cautions and restrictions can begin to take its toll. Change in general is stressful. Uncertainties bring stress. How will your kids be going to school? Or not? When will you be able to give your elderly parents a hug? How long will you have to be wearing masks to go shopping? When will life be back to “normal” again?
First, give yourself some grace right now. You are normal! These are stressful times. If your own situation is not hard enough, you are probably hearing on the news or seeing in social media how others are struggling and you are feeling the weight of this as well.
Secondly, stay in the present! You do not have to figure out the future and you will be given what you need when you need it, but not today. Today, God will give you strength just for today. Live in today!
Thirdly, take time to relieve today’s stress in healthy ways. Take time to get outside, be active, pray, listen to music, talk to a friend, schedule an appointment with your counselor, practice some mindful breathing, read a Psalm or do some journaling.
It’s okay if you are more stressed than normal and more tired than usual, but take care of yourself and know that God says you are worth it! In fact Jesus invites, “Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens and I will give you rest!” (Matthew 11:28)
